Managing Move Update – Addressing Requirements & Best Practices
Guest Host: Charles Hunt
Address quality is crucial to your mailing’s overall success. Yet, nearly 10 billion pieces of mail
are deemed Undeliverable As Addressed each year – resulting in nearly $2 billion in cost to the USPS.
Over 75% of this UAA mail is directly tied to move related addressing problems. Hence, the requirement
to keep your addresses complete, correct, and current at least 95 days prior to the mailing in order
to claim postage discounts for Standard and First-Class mail. On November 23, 2008, expanded Move Update
rules went into effect. Yet many mailers are still uncertain as to what options are available, how they
can be applied, and who is ultimately responsible for Move Update compliance.
Understanding and Preparing for the Flat Sequencing System
Guest Hosts: Rosa Fulton, USPS Executive Director of FSS and Krista Finazzo, USPS Manager of Operational Requirements
The world of flat-shaped mail will achieve a significantly new level of sortation and expedited handling with the deployment of
the new Flat Sequencing System (FSS) initiative. With FSS, the USPS intends to achieve similar improvements that have been
demonstrated with letter delivery point sequencing. But what impact will FSS have on the way you sort flat-shaped mail today?
What addressing changes will be necessary? And what will be the future for carrier route sorted mail once FSS is fully deployed?
Rosa Fulton, USPS Executive Director of FSS for the and Krista Finazzo, USPS Manager of Operational Requirements, join Chris Lien,
Executive Vice President at BCC Software, for a special PEAK webinar where they discuss the FSS initiative.
Topics discussed include:
- The overall strategy of FSS
- FSS related addressing changes that go into effect March 29, 2009
- The impact FSS will have on carrier route sorted mail
- A look at the national deployment of the FSS devices
- The impact FSS will have on your destination delivery logistics
Countdown to Move Update Compliance
Guest Host: Tom Coggin, President, DATA DIRECT
Effective November 23, 2008, the USPS will expand their Move Update requirements to include Standard as well as First-Class Mail.
Effective on that date, an approved Move Update method must be applied “prior to the mailing” – a key phrase that is now becoming
more clearly defined.
While many mailers are focused on November, the fact is that any mailings already being prepared that will mail on or after
November 23 must comply with the new Move Update regulations. Time to prepare is running out: there is much at stake for your
business, and many choices and numerous scenarios to consider. Failure to comply with Move Update rules can result in loss of
all postage discounts for a mailpiece, resulting in postage payments at First-Class single piece rates.
Tom Coggin, president of DATA DIRECT, has been actively involved in address quality and mail preparations for over 3 decades.
He understands the value of data accuracy, and has been actively implementing the “3C” approach to address quality—complete,
correct, and current—in his operations.
Join Tom and Chris Lien, executive vice president of BCC Software, as they discuss the new Move Update requirements, their
impact on the mailing industry, and how you can begin immediately implementing a strategy that will allow you to continue to
retain postage and ensure timely and ultimate delivery of your mail, and that of your customers.
PostalOne! and the Future of Postage Payment & Documentation
Guest Host: Debbie Cooper, Postal Operations Manager for Quebecor World Logistics
The way in which we pay postage and document mailings is rapidly changing. With the USPS demanding more
information about mail preparation and justification of eligibility for claimed discounts, they are effectively
pushing the industry toward an electronic system to manage all things postal. This new system is called PostalOne!,
and it is a foundational element in the future of the mailing industry.
Though PostalOne! has been nearly decade in the making, it is really coming into its own now, and in fact is
required as part of the Full Service implementation of the Intelligent Mail Barcode. But how many mailers truly
understand what PostalOne! is? Are you clear on how to upload postal data to this rapidly evolving system? And
how does the data within PostalOne! enhance the overall value of mail? Will it truly become the central entity in
managing all things postal related?
Debbie Cooper, Postal Operations Manager for Quebecor World Logistics, has been a pioneer in working with PostalOne!.
From scheduling drop ship appointments to Mail.dat, electronic postage payment and documentation, she has been at the
core of PostalOne! development since its inception.
Join Debbie and Chris Lien, Executive Vice President of BCC Software, as they discuss the crucial role PostalOne!
will have in the future of mail. During this session, Debbie and Chris will discuss how you can get started with
PostalOne!, what barriers you may face, how to manage the data within it, and more importantly, how to make it a
crucial part of your mailing operation.
